Rules to be Aware of:

+ For Training

  • You will be provided a Kit Bag which will include some basic equipment: first aid kit, bibs, goalie shirt, balls and witches hats.
  • Plan the structure of your session on paper before each session. There are many great online resources available including the NSFA INSPIRE program – see below.
  • Encourage 100% player attendance and make training enjoyable and competitive.
  • In Junior age groups, encourage assistance by parents. For U6-U9 you will need a coaching partner or assistant!
  • At all junior sessions there should always be a minimum of 2 parents (including coach) in attendance in case of injury or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Make sure you arrive 10mins before your session to set up and ensure lights are on if required. Contact the registrar 0425 286 020 or your Age Coordinator if they haven’t been turned on.
  • Click here for Ground Locations and which part of the field is your designated section to train on.
  • How will I know if gounds will be open if there is wet weather? All this information can be found on our Wet Weather Policies and Procedures page. Which is also accessible via the Weather Alert announcement Bar at the top of every page on the website. We endeavour to keep this as up to date as possible. There are also links to the Kuringai council and NFSA weather information if you need to find out first hand. It is essential you are familiar with what is required including understanding the Extreme Heat and Lightning Policies.

+ For Matches

  • Bring your LFC Kit Bag with your match ball, goalie shirt first aid kit and a whistle.
  • Pre plan player interchange to ensure each player has equal time off the field. Frequent interchange is allowed up to and including U18s to ensure all players participate equally.
  • Determine each player’s playing positions. During the season
    • Players in the U6-U10 age groups must be rotated through all the playing positions including the goalkeeper’s position, this is a NFSA and LFC requirement for the development of all players.
    • For U11 & upwards, players will tend to settle into specific positions and this should be encouraged. Always maintain a balance between positional rotation and team performance
  • Determine the game tactics.
  • Role Model Respect and Fair Play
  • If you have a Club Coach during the week – work with the coach to reinforce training focus areas on game day
  • Stand with your subs (wearing bibs) in the nominated Technical area which should be on the opposite side of the field to spectators
  • Supervise Player Conduct
  • In Junior football, the result is not important. You are not coaching to win. The purpose of match day is for the players to execute what they practiced at training. They need to enjoy themselves and focus on playing good football!

+ At Season End

  • Please provide the Club with a Coaches Report for your team. This information is vital to assist in correctly grading players at the appropriate level and placing teams in the most suitable division the following season.
  • Ensure you or your manger return the kit bag

Click here for more information on how to book a Training ground.

Click here for Ground Locations and which part of the field is your designated section to train on.

NB grounds with lighting are limited which is essential from 5.00pm onwards during the winter months.

+ Do I need to be an experienced Coach to train my child’s team?

For the younger age groups (U6-U9), you don’t have to be experienced to be a Coach! If you are enthusiastic, responsible, a good organizer and a good learner, the Club will provide you with the resources to become a successful Coach!

We highly recommend you attend our LFC Coaching support seminars as past participants have found them highly beneficial. It is also a good idea to gain your MiniRoos Grassroots Certificate offered by NSFA. This is a FREE introductory course which runs for 2-3 hours. The course is focussed on creating an ENGAGING, ENJOYABLE and ORGANISED environment, to guide our children to fall in love with football.

As you progress to coach older age groups – there are many opportunities to attain further Coach education so that all players will have and enjoyable, safe and engaging experience, regardless of their ability, age or gender.

+ What resources are available to help me as a coach?

The FFA has a huge number of informative resources plus you can check out the list of additional Coaching Links we have put together at the bottom of this page.

However, for a wealth of material you cannot go past the Northern Suburbs Football Association’s (NSFA) INSPIRE Coach Support Program. Launched in 2017 it provides community coaches with an array of resources, videos and advice to make their job easier, more enjoyable and for the benefit of their players.

At LFC we strongly encourage all our coaching staff to sign up to the INSPIRE Coach support program. When you do, you will receive a weekly e-newsletter on Sundays which will contain: -

  • INSPIRE Curriculum: A weekly session plan based on your team and age group
  • INSPIRE Coaching Tips: A new coaching tip to help you connect with your players
  • INSPIRE Insights: Sharing various coaching articles, videos and other resources that have been found to be useful for coach development
  • INSPIRE TV - Session content videos
  • XLR8 Skill Videos - Providing you with help to teach your players new skills
