Welcome to Football for U6 Players

Club Background

Lindfield Football Club (LFC) participates in a local football competition run by the Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA). There are 31 member clubs of NSFA spanning from Brooklyn in the North to North Sydney in the South. In 2019, LFC had approximately 2000 members, making it the largest Club in the NSFA.

U6 Football

To be eligible to enrol as an U6 LFC player you must be turning 5 or 6 during the calendar year. All players are welcome and no experience is necessary.
To register to play football, please follow the instructions in our Step-by-Step Guide also found on the website under the Players and registration tab.
Registration fees can be found here. You can apply your $100 Active Kids Voucher, available from the Service NSW website, to your registration fees. Our Step-by-Step guide above will explain how.
U6 Football entails one team training session per week plus a competition game every Saturday morning. The season runs from early April to the end of August, with a week break during both school holiday periods.

Welcome to Football Morning in 2020

All U6 players are invited to attend the Welcome to Football morning on Saturday, 22nd February at the Lindfield Sports Centre, 76A Highfield Road Lindfield. When you register to play football, you will be automatically assigned a time slot and the U6 age coordinator will confirm this time with you prior to the event.
The Welcome to Football morning is a great opportunity for the kids to gain an insight into what football is all about. We will have LFC coaches running group activities on the morning and LFC committee members will be available to answer any questions.
Please wear something suitable for running around in: Shorts & Shirt, boots not necessary, joggers/runners will suffice. Shin pads are recommended.
The LFC uniform shop will also be open during these events, you can find the entrance around the back of the club or internally by going down the stairs on the right hand side of the bar.

Team Placement and Grading

  • Development Squad
LFC is now entering its 10th year of offering a highly successful development program and we intend to select at least one Development Squad (DS) team in U6 this season. The DS team will train with an LFC appointed coach once a week and it’s a great opportunity for those players who are enthusiastic about their football.
Trials for the DS teams are voluntary and you can register for the trial on Saturday 29th February here Grading Registration or discuss with us at the Welcome Morning.  Any places offered in a DS team are not compulsory.
  • Friendship Teams
We also encourage players to form their own friendship teams. It’s a great way to get to know some of your new kindergarten friends. You can submit an online playing with friends request form which can be found on  Team Grader.. The recommended team size is 12 players.
FAQ’s for Play with Friends Requests.
  • Individual Players
The Club will organize teams for all other individual registrations wishing to play in a social team.

U6 Format

All our U6 to U11 teams play Miniroos football. If you would like to know more about the format and rules, we encourage you to take a look at Miniroos Player Information.

On game day, each team will split into two equal groups and play a 4v4 format. Games will be two halves of 20 minutes each. The emphasis for U6 football is on fun!

All players will need a LFC kit which includes a jersey, shorts and socks. The kit is available from our uniform shop, located downstairs at our Clubhouse at 76A Highfield Rd, Lindfield. The uniform shop will be open during the Welcome to Football event, as well as other advertised times during the week. You can also shop at our New Online Store and pickup at the Uniform Shop during normal opening hours once you receive the email saying your order is ready.
Players will also require a pair of football boots, and shin pads are mandatory.
It is not necessary to wear the LFC kit to Welcome to Football, any comfortable clothes for running in will be fine. Sneakers are also ok at this stage but we would recommend shin pads if possible.

LFC runs an age wide U6 training session on a Friday afternoon at the Lindfield Sports Centre. Players trained with their own team mates but in a group environment with qualified LFC coaches. It was a lot of fun for all the kids and for the parents, who are most welcome to enjoy the facilities at the Club house. The cost of this program is $140.
The Friday afternoon sessions are not compulsory, if teams have a volunteer to run training sessions, they can select a time and day suitable to all their team members.
Games will be Saturday mornings. There will be some local travel and a lot of games at Regimental Oval in Killara or Bales Park in Chatswood. Expect 8.30am starts! For U6 football, games are likely to be at 8.30am or 9.15am but could be scheduled later – so we recommend if your child has a second activity such as swimming or tennis to move those lessons to late morning or an alternative day.

The first official game of the 2020 season is Saturday, 4th April.

Parent Involvement

The format of Miniroos football encourages parent involvement. Each team will need a manager that will coordinate attendance at the game each week. On game day, parents will need to be involved as “Game Day Leaders”, running substitutes, keeping score or supplying fruit. There are many useful Apps that can be used to help with team organisation.
More information regarding parent involvement will be provided prior to the season starting.
